Do you need to get the other person’s insurance information after a car wreck? Hey everyone, Christopher Stevens here certified paralegal with the Wirth Law Office in Tulsa, Oklahoma, specializing in personal injury in Oklahoma.
Today we’re going to be talking about whether or not you need to get the other person’s insurance information after a car wreck.
Now, right after a car wreck, you’re probably going to have quite a bit going through your mind. You want to make sure that everyone is in a stable medical condition. You want to see if there are any other hazards that you need to keep a lookout for.
But one thing you should also keep in mind is getting the other person’s insurance information.
Now, I’ve unfortunately had several clients in the past, most of the time it’s when they are involved in a wreck, where the other person is very apologetic or admits fault right then and there that they don’t get that insurance information right off the bat.
Now, most of the time, you can just ask the other driver, “Hey, can I see a copy of your insurance,” and they might pull it up on their phone, or they’ll have a card with them.
Take a quick photo, and you’re set. Now in those other cases where the person doesn’t give it to them, I’ve had instances where that driver will have a change of heart, and suddenly they don’t think they were at fault, or they want to be the ones who control that narrative with the insurance company.
So if you’re able, you might consider just asking that quick question, “Can I have your insurance information?” And get a copy of it.
