Be Careful What You Say to an Adjuster
Video Transcribed: Does it matter what you say to an insurance company after a car wreck? This is Christopher Stevens here certified paralegal with the Wirth Law Firm in Tulsa, Oklahoma, working in personal injury in Tulsa. Now, today, we’re going to be discussing how important it is what you say to the insurance company.
Now, a lot of the time you might think, “Oh, it doesn’t really matter that much. This adjuster is really friendly,” and they might be a very nice person, but at the end of the day, anything that you say to the insurance company can and will be used against you if they think it’s something that they can use to their advantage.
I’ve had several clients in the past who said some throwaway comment that they didn’t really think mattered on a quick couple minute phone call with an insurance adjuster only to later have it be brought up as a cornerstone of the argument for the insurance company as to why their injuries were completely illegitimate. So anytime you’re speaking with an adjuster, be very careful about what you say and don’t divulge more than you really have to.
Now, one thing that we tend to recommend is to seek legal counsel. That way, we’re the ones who are in charge of what is and isn’t said to the insurance company.
