Applying for Unemployment Is a Hassle-Free Process
Video Transcribed: What are unemployment benefits and how do you get them? Hi, my name is Jason Sorenson. I’m a Tulsa attorney and today we’re going to be talking about unemployment benefits.
Unemployment benefits provide temporary income for unemployed workers, for people that maybe were laid off from their job recently.
So when you work for an employer, money is automatically deducted from your paycheck to cover unemployment insurance.
When you’re laid off or fired, you are entitled to unemployment benefits unless your employer can prove one of two things. Either you were fired for misconduct or you voluntarily quit your job without real good cause for it.
So to claim unemployment, you can either apply for benefits online at www.unemployment.ok.gov, or you can call the state unemployment phone number at 800-555-1554. But this is just basic information.
